“N.I.C.E. No More” is a reference and an acronym from That Hideous Strength by CS Lewis.
In Hideous Strength, N.I.C.E. stands for the “National Institute of Continuing Experimentation” that does experimentation on humans and on animals. It’s quite atrocious and I think that something similar is going on in our culture today.
At a time when it is our responsibility as the Church of Christ to speak up, preach the gospel, and “teach the devil to death” (Martin Luther, Large Catechism), I contend that our Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) is not responding well. Sadly, it is silent in its public confession, unmanly in its theological disputation, and anemic in its push back against cultural Marxism (“wokeism”).
In my conversation with Pr Larry Beane we talk about his most recent article Man the Lifeboats (Gottesdienst blog) and the hope that is ours in the Word (the Verbum) – in the Scriptures and incarnate in Jesus.
